Alongside occasional university talks (from close to home in Cambridge to Akita in NW Japan) I offer two five part Lifelong Learner (former WEA group) courses, as well as standalone talks for adults - and am an experienced speaker in further education settings and groups.
All my adult talks reflect my deep engagement with the 2011 tsunami recovery communities of NE Japan, and aim to inspire themes around resilience, hope and community.
Talk series one: Voices from the Floating World is an introduction to the history, geology, culture, art and beliefs of Japan.
Talk series two: Deeper into Japan takes themes from the first series and explores in greater depth the ongoing recovery, history (focussing on the 20th century and the pivotal decade of the1960s), the films of Kurosawa and Ozu, inspirational women, and belief, superstition and folklore.
